I went on the hunt for a PVC-free insulated lunch bag in which to transport my bottles and bags of expressed breast-milk, after I found out that the inner layer of the insulated tote that came with my Ameda pump was made of vinyl. Vinyl and its close cousin, PVC (aka, the "poison plastic"), are not recommended for use in products for infants and small children because they often contain phthalates and other unhealthy chemicals. Since the majority of traditional insulated lunch bags are lined with vinyl or PVC, it took quite a bit of searching before I located this Green Sprouts lunch bag here on Amazon. Unlike most of its counterparts, the Green Sprouts lunch bag is lined with non-toxic polyester fabric instead of PVC. The lining is also waterproof, so moisture from ice-packs and condensation won't seep through it; and it also keeps the contents of the bag as cold as traditional vinyl-lined lunch bags do, for equally long.
Furthermore, this lunch bag is very attractive and easy to carry. I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten on it. Plus, it has a detachable strap, so you can loop it onto a stroller, another bag, etc., for hands-free carrying. It has definitely been a very useful purchase, and even more importantly, a safe one. It's also quite versatile: When my baby is no longer drinking breast-milk, I plan on using this as her daycare/pre-school lunch bag.
